Opening =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- With this FAQ, I want you to know that I am not doing it just to become popular at GameFAQs or anywhere else for that matter. I'm doing this FAQ soley because I thought it might help some people to see the work of a different author, a different kind of FAQ, and a minimal amount of text to wade through. Trust me. This FAQ is not big compared to the others, and this FAQ only covers where and how to get the crystal shards, and the skills Kirby can get, their usefulness, etc. I don't even know where CJayC is going to classify this FAQ under, but that doesn't matter. What matters is that I get this FAQ out for you to get the possible help you need. Of course you've read Dallas' and Devin's Kirby FAQ. Maybe you didn't get the exact help you needed? Maybe you don't like their style? Then maybe that's why you are reading mine (if it actually gets posted, that is). OK. Now I'm joking against myself. Take me seriously if you want, but that would be bad (but take me seriously on the Legal info and crap, please). I like to joke around. Bear with me on my cheesy humor if you will. Ah damn. Now I'm rambling. Anyhoo... If you are looking for some help on finding and getting the games numerous Crystal Shards, or you want to learn the skill combos, what they do, and their usefullness, then you've come to the right FAQ! This is Seiferoth's/Lyenhardt's/Ethan's (whichever you want to call me) FAQ to Kirby's skills and the shards. So, prepare yourself for something very, very scary. Prepare yourself for an amazingly short FAQ which has a mediocre, yet, satisfying layout that has absolutley NO FANCY ASCII ART!!! Wow, I bet your heart's racing now, eh? Thought so. >_< -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3. Kirby's Mad Skillz =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- As you may or may not know, Kirby, the cute little creampuff, can suck up the enemy and swallow them, giving him the enemie's abilities. Well, in this game, Kirby can mix/combine the enemies he swallows to create devastatingly potent abilites (FYI, some enemies Kirby swallows will not give you an ability, but swallowing some of those can be used to your advantage, in which I will touch on later in this section). By either sucking up two enemies -- that give you abilities -- at a time and combining them, or sucking one up, and throwing it at another to form a mixture (then sucking that mixture up and combining it), Kirby can hone the power of both of those enemies. You won't be able to use both of the enemy's powers, but it will become a whole new ability in itself, except, in most cases, much better and more potent than any normal skill. Before you is a comprehensive list of Kirby's Killer Skills. Enjoy! *NOTE:* All combination skill's names are made up by me to appropriately suit the skills overall performance and look. The name of the combo is surrounded by underscores and asteriks. *NOTE 2:* All combos are rated on a scale from "one" to "five" stars, and it is represented by "asteriks", better known as "stars" *NOTE 3:* I relisted all of the skills in the appropriate section for your convenience, and not to increase the KB size of this FAQ. Trust me. I don't plan on writing many FAQs anyway, and with the completion of this FAQ, I'll have a total of about 60 KB worth of FAQ writing, so don't think I'm gonna steal your top spots. :P ----------------------------------------------------------------------- a. Burn Combos ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Burn + Burn = | _*Phoenix Strike*_ =============== With this skill, Kirby errupts into a flaming projectile and darts a good ways across the screen, literally incinerating anything in his path. The skill cuts of when you hit something damaging or a boss/mini-boss. -The Good-: Good for getting through straight-away courses. -The Bad-: You can be easily hit after the attack wears off. -The Ugly-: Using the skill against a wall. >_< ~Overall Rating~: * * * (Three Stars out of Five) _______________________________________________________________________ Burn + Stone = | _*Volcano*_ ================ Standing in one place, Kirby begins shooting out molten, hot rocks at his enemy. Also, he can't be damaged while doing so, unless by mini-bosses or bosses, and some possible projectiles. -The Good-: You can duke it out with lots of enemies with this skill. -The Bad-: The distance of the attack is a bit limited -The Ugly-: The face Kirby makes, and the fact you can't move with the skill. ~Overall Rating~: * * * _______________________________________________________________________ Burn + Frost = | _*Icy Hot*_ ================ This ability is like the only exception to what I mentioned in the paragraph above. This is basically a straight usage of both burn and frost skills. Kirby uses both fire and ice powers to put the "freezer burn" on them. ;) To bad the concept doesn't execute as it should. :( -The Good-: Nothing -The Bad-: Everything (Bad range, You get hit a lot trying to use it, it's only a temp. attack, you can't move while using it, and the list goes on -The Ugly-: C'mon Hal! Can't you think of a more innovative attack than this? ~Overall Rating~: * _______________________________________________________________________ Burn + Needle = | _*Fire Arrow*_ ================= Kirby morphs into a Bow and Arrow, shooting arching, flaming arrows at his opponents. The arrows have good range, but the skill is overall pretty slow. When the arrows hit, they create a momentary pillar of fire, which is good also. -The Good-: This skill is fun to use, and is good against some bosses. -The Bad-: It's slow to use, and you can't move while using it. -The Ugly-: Mastering the skill. ~Overall Rating~: * * * _______________________________________________________________________ Burn + Bomb = | _*Fireworks*_ =============== With this ability, Kirby becomes his own Fireworks show, brillianly exploding and bombing his way through the stages and enemies before him. This skill has good range, especially when you pull off the third consecutive firework attack. Remember, you can use this skill _three_ times in a row, in mid-air. -The Good-: It's rare to get hit by enemies while using it -The Bad-: Using it over pits. That might not be too smart. -The Ugly-: Kirby after using it for a day or so. <(0^o)> ~Overall Rating~: * * * * * (PERFECT FIVE!!) _______________________________________________________________________ Burn + Spark = | _*Static Charge*_ ================ Scraping an object on his head, building up the static electricity within, Kirby catches himself on fire with this ability, and literally becomes a train, or is remniscent of one anyway. Flames burst out of his head and he goes out of partial control, charging forward, blitzing through almost anything. -The Good-: At least you can jump with this skill. :) -The Bad-: You might not want to fight bosses with it, and it's not the most practical skill to use. -The Ugly-: Kirby's eyes when he uses this skill. @_@ ~Overall Rating~: * * _______________________________________________________________________ Burn + Cutter = | _*Flame Sword*_ ================= Now, this is a pretty cool skill. Kirby wielding a sword? Is that right? Of course it is! Especially one that is about three times bigger than he is. The sword is an effective weapon, both being a projectile and a sweeping weapon of doom and fiery death. Watch those pits, though... -The Good-: The skill is almost perfect... (Good range, it can be thrown) -The Bad-: ...But it's lacking a bit. (Can't fly with it) -The Ugly-: The enemies when you get through dicing and torching them ~Overall Rating~: * * * * (Almost five...almost) _______________________________________________________________________ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- b. Stone Combos ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Stone + Burn = | _*Volcano*_ ================ Standing in one place, Kirby begins shooting out molten, hot rocks at his enemy. ~Overall Rating~: * * * _______________________________________________________________________ Stone + Stone = | _*Big Golem*_ ================= ME BIG GOLEM KIRBY. ME CRUSH YOU! Basically, that's what you feel like saying when you get this skill. With the Big Golem power, you can rather speedily trample through stages, obliterating things in your path. Also, with this skill, you can gain momentum going downhills, and can hit bosses rather easily with this attack (you usually bounce back off of the boss when you run/roll into them, or you could always use the large chunks of rock that busts off of you when you deactivate the power to hit them). A good skill. -The Good-: Speedy, large radius of attack when detonated, unstoppable. -The Bad-: You can't walk up hills with this skill, or jump over objects. :( -The Ugly-: Using this skill underwater. ~Overall~: * * * * _______________________________________________________________________ Stone + Frost = | _*Curling Puck*_ ================= While not exactly a hockey puck, Kirby morphs into something resembling one (a curling puck) and glides gracefully on the ground, freezing enemies in his way. He starts out with a lot of momentum at first, then begins to slow down, and picks up speed on downhill slopes. A pretty good skill for an area with straight-aways. Fast, efficient, and safe. Bosses aren't too easy with this skill, however, and it's best used in the earlier stages. -The Good-: You can get through the more simple stages rather quickly with this skill. Especially useful if you're trying to collect all of the cards. -The Bad-: Don't fight bosses that move a lot with it, lest you want a butt-whooping. -The Ugly-: Me having to change this part because I didn't know what Kirby turned into. ~Overall Rating~: * * * _______________________________________________________________________ Stone + Needle = | _*Drill*_ ================== Easily one the best skills in the game. Kirby draws a large drill bit from his arms, and turns that sucker on, and it automatically drags him forward to dice up any opponents in his way. Also, the Drill is launchable at your will (by holding the (B) Button, the drill will automatically run. By releasing it, it will launch the drill bit forward). When launched, the drill will proceed forward, and will even go through objects in its way (tree stumps, walls, etc.) Plus, you can use the drill to sorta "hover" through long jumps in the stage. When Kirby runs out of breath to fly, start using this skill to basically keep going (you can keep launching as many drill bits as you like. Neato! -The Good-: Everything. -The Bad-: Basically nothing. -The Ugly-: The fact that this skill is virtually flawless. ~Overall Rating~: * * * * * (Gee, who woulda thunk?) _______________________________________________________________________ Stone + Bomb = | _*Dynamite*_ ================ Some say this skill is cool and good. Others could argue that it's not. Well, to tell you the truth, you better know what you're doing with this skill. Patience is required to use this, so be careful. This is, I believe, the only skill you can use that actually "hurts" you. Kirby throws a bundle of dynamite out, which is already lit, and waits for an enemy (or himself) to hit it, or until the fuse goes out and it explodes. By pressing down on the D-Pad, Kirby brings up a helmet that protects him from the explosion. By bumping the bomb, he can nudge it forward toward an enemy. Not a skill to be used by amatuer Kirby Players. USE CAUTION! -The Good-: Very large hit-zone. Basically, you can hit all enemies on the screen. -The Bad-: You'll end up getting hit by the explosion a lot, and killed. -The Ugly-: Throwing it out and getting it hit by an unsuspecting enemy. ~Overall Rating~: * * _______________________________________________________________________ Stone + Spark = | _*Electro Boulder*_ ================= The YOYO! Well, err, not exactly. With this skill, Kirby uses a boulder that is held by a stream of electricity to crush and shock his foes at the same time. Although not exactly controllable, you can influence the direction of the attack by moving, changing directions, and jumping. The boulder and the stream of electricity hurt the enemy, and you can detonate the current boulder to hurt them also. A very recommended skill. -The Good-: Both good to use in stages and against bosses. -The Bad-: It isn't totally controllable. It would be nice to control it with the analog stick. -The Ugly-: Getting hit by the power, which shuts it off. ~Overall Rating~: * * * * (Almost five) _______________________________________________________________________ Stone + Cutter = | _*Sculpt*_ ================== This is another unique skill which brings back memories actually. Kirby quickly morphs into a stone, and sculps himself really hastily (the cutting action of the sculpt hurts enemies), and randomly, he becomes a stone figure of a friend/helper from previous Kirby titles. Some friends include Kine the fish, Ricky, the owl, a little birdy from KDL3 (PITCH!!), and a few others. Most of the stone figures have a unique ability. One can fly really fast (which can get you through the stages harm free and quick), one can jump up walls, and another can do a triple jump. While some of these moves are plain useless, it's still a cool move nevertheless. -The Good-: Very well-rounded attack. The little birdy rules! -The Bad-: Some of the skills are useless. And why doesn't the man "Kine" have some kind of cool ability? -The Ugly-: Waiting for the sculpt attack to bring up the one skill you need since it is randomized. ~Overall Rating~: * * * * * (PERFECT!!) _______________________________________________________________________ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- c. Frost Combos ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Frost + Burn = | _*Icy Hot*_ ================ This ability is like the only exception to what I mentioned in the paragraph above. ~Overall Rating~: * _______________________________________________________________________ Frost + Stone = | _*Curling Puck*_ ================= While not exactly a hockey puck, Kirby morphs into something resembling one (a curling puck) and glides gracefully on the ground, freezing enemies in his way. ~Overall Rating~: * * * _______________________________________________________________________ Frost + Frost = | _*Snowball*_ ================= This is the way! Kirby turns into a gigantic snowball, and shift into forward, and starts a rampage through the stages. The movement isn't based on gravity. This ability has a natural forward pull to it. Also, you can bust out of the snowball as you wish by pressing the button again, which can save you as well. -The Good-: The auto-forward pull on the attack, which is opposite of the Stone attack. -The Bad-: Yet again, avoid this skill to take on most bosses -The Ugly-: Using this skill on a pit area. ~Overall Rating~: * * * * _______________________________________________________________________ Frost + Needle = | _*Ice Flake*_ ================== Brrrrr! This is one cool-looking attack. Kirby slowly crystalizes himself, extending sharp, pertruding ice-spikes out in all directions, piercing his foes. While not the most effective, speedy attack there is, it's cool to watch nonetheless. -The Good-: Cool looking! -The Bad-: Pretty slow attack. If it wasn't so cool to watch, you might fall asleep. -The Ugly-: If you actually fell asleep during the attack. ~Overall Rating~: * * _______________________________________________________________________ Frost + Bomb = | _*Suicidal Snowman*_ ================ The innocent snowman. Such a vibrant image of winter. But, what about snowmen with bombs in them? Not so innocent, eh? Well, the little cold-blooded killer in disguise, Kirby, can use this rather crappy skill if he wants. Yay! You are able to steer the snowman and move while the skill is in use, and run Kirby into the enemy, causing an explosion. -The Good-: The Charm -The Bad-: The inability to shut the skill off, so you end up having to wait for it to explode, or run into the potentially deadly enemy (if you have low life, mayhaps) to get it to run off. And there's other bad things about it. -The Ugly-: If a kid really put a pipe bomb or something in his/her snowman at home. ~Overall Rating~: * _______________________________________________________________________ Frost + Spark = | _*Fridge*_ ================= Riiiiiiiiight This attack is just strange. But ya know what? It kicks ass! By turning into a Fridge, Kirby has all of the food at his disposal (and throughout the game, Kirby is seen to eat a lot). Not only can he HEAL himself with this skill, he can also become invincible from conventional attacks (standard attacks from enemies and enemies running into him), and able to attack with the very food within the fridge. THIS IS THE WAY!! -The Good-: Just about everything. "Mmm....healing foods..." -The Bad-: You don't want to use it on easy stages; slow to move around. -The Ugly-: If Kirby fed his enemies to death....wait. That's what he's basically doing, no? ~Overall Rating~: * * * * * (PERFECT!!) _______________________________________________________________________ Frost + Cutter = | _*Ice Skates*_ ================== Now we're talking! Ice skates! OK. I'm calm, I'm calm. Now, this is a cool skill, don't get me wrong....but it just doesn't "cut" it. While it is fun to skate around with the skates and breezing through stages with a bit of effort, this skill is another crapper basically. Kirby uses the skates to do Olympic-like stunts in mid-air, twisting rapidly and cutting up enemies around and below him (bad range, though). Not recommended for bosses. -The Good-: It's fun, at least. -The Bad-: The range, the accuracy, and the control. -The Ugly-: Kirby isn't an Olympic Figure skater, for chrissakes! ~Overall Rating~: * * _______________________________________________________________________ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- d. Needle Combos ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Needle + Burn = | _*Fire Arrow*_ ================= Kirby morphs into a Bow and Arrow, shooting arching, flaming arrows at his opponents. ~Overall Rating~: * * * _______________________________________________________________________ Needle + Stone = | _*Drill*_ ================== Easily one the best skills in the game. ~Overall Rating~: * * * * * (Gee, who woulda thunk?) _______________________________________________________________________ Needle + Frost = | _*Ice Flake*_ ================== Brrrrr! ~Overall Rating~: * * _______________________________________________________________________ Needle + Needle = | _*Swiss-Army Attack*_ =================== Now, this is one cool attack in my eyes. Let's see here.... We got a cactus, a fork, a bee's stinger, a cork drill, a sword, a hypodermic needle, and a very, very sharp pencil!! Ack! You know that has to hurt. And when you use the attack, he does a 180 tumble, jabbing & sticking & gouging & slicing & cutting the enemies. Cool, cool skill. -The Good-: Rather effective against conventional and boss enemies alike, not to mention cool looking. -The Bad-: Not for speed usage. -The Ugly-: Getting hit with this attack yourself. Ouch! 0_o ~Overall Rating~: * * * * _______________________________________________________________________ Needle + Bomb = | _*Gordo Attack*_ ================= Pretty much your basic stuff here. There's really nothing special about this skill. Kirby becomes one of the spikey black guys (forgot the name right now), except with a twist. He can move slowly in any direction (even in the air) and he is able to detonate himself, sending the spikes flying. The spikes themselves don't go too far, though, and you can't stay in spike form for long (about three seconds). The skill is pretty good against bosses, though. -The Good-: The sound it makes when you use the attack! =) -The Bad-: It would've been better if you could stay in the form indefinitely. -The Ugly-: Using this ability to go through one of the longer stages. ~Overall Rating~: * * * _______________________________________________________________________ Needle + Spark = | _*Lightning Rod*_ ================== Kirby summons the powers of the heavens with this skill. A needle-like rod forms upon his head, and a devastating blast of lightning strikes it, killing any enemies above and near him (it sends a slight shockwave from K's base). Not very practical, not very flashy, not too cool. But it is good for picking off enemies that are above you on another platform, and are blocking your way. Besides that, it's not much. -The Good-: Picking off enemies through floors is good -The Bad-: Really has nothing else to offer besides that. -The Ugly-: He looks like a black "slime" from the Dragon Warrior/Quest series when he uses it. ~Overall Rating~: * * _______________________________________________________________________ Needle + Cutter = | _*Bear Trap*_ =================== This is probably one of the best skills to fight bosses with, overall. It'll really help you out against them. Kirby uses his puny arms to change them into a monsterous spike pit, which closes when you release the (B) button. It can kill enemies through panels, and can hit a wide area of enemies when you jump up and open up the attack. Then you can follow up by closing it. It's sorta slow, but an effective skill anyway. -The Good-: Well rounded weapon. -The Bad-: Sorta slow. -The Ugly-: Not using this skill any. ~Overall Rating~: * * * * _______________________________________________________________________ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- e. Bomb Combos ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Bomb + Burn = | _*Fireworks*_ =============== With this ability, Kirby becomes his own Fireworks show, brillianly exploding and bombing his way through the stages and enemies before him. Homing missles pop out of Kirby's mouth (anyone remember the commercial? LoL!!), and are launched then after all three pop out or you release the button. They then home in on the nearest target(s). Not a complicated or cool to watch attack, but very effective and deadly. -The Good-: Homing missles! And the fact it whoops up on most bosses! -The Bad-: The skill offers not protection really. -The Ugly-: The pets on that commercial when Kirby got through with them. >_< (ooh!) ~Overall Rating~: * * * * * (PERFECT!!) _______________________________________________________________________ Bomb + Spark = | _*Lightbulb*_ ================ Need a light? Got a light! Kirby is just full of "energy" these days, eh? With this ability, Kirby can show enemies just how much it hurts to touch a lightbulb that's been on for eight hours. Also, he can show them how much it hurts to get a broken lightbulb to the face. You'll also need this skill to solve a puzzle later on. An average skill. -The Good-: You can easily activate and deactivate the skill at command. -The Bad-: It's a mediocre skill. Not much to offer. -The Ugly-: Trying to run into an enemy that's using it's power. ~Overall Rating~: * * * _______________________________________________________________________ Bomb + Cutter = | _*Explode Shuriken*_ ================= NINJA KIRBY! Kirby, Ninja supreme, begins to throw invisible shurikens which stick into the enemy and blow up, with this skill. Basically, he hovers in mid-air (if you repeatedly keep throwing them) chucking them. When he/you make contact, it will explode killing the enemy. Not the best ability to go through normal stages, but it works wonders on bosses. -The Good-: Ultimate boss killer! -The Bad-: Hard to judge the attack (as in timing it). -The Ugly-: If Ninjas in the movies could use them. BOOM! ~Overall Rating~: * * * * _______________________________________________________________________ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- f. Spark Combos ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Spark + Burn = | _*Static Charge*_ ================ Scraping an object on his head, building up the static electricity within, Kirby catches himself on fire with this ability, and literally becomes a train, or is remniscent of one anyway. ~Overall Rating~: * * * * (Almost five) _______________________________________________________________________ Spark + Frost = | _*Fridge*_ ================= Riiiiiiiiight This attack is just strange. ~Overall Rating~: * * * * * (PERFECT!!) _______________________________________________________________________ Spark + Needle = | _*Lightning Rod*_ ================== Kirby summons the powers of the heavens with this skill. ~Overall Rating~: * * _______________________________________________________________________ Spark + Bomb = | _*Lightbulb*_ ================ Need a light? Got a light! Kirby is just full of "energy" these days, eh? With this ability, Kirby can show enemies just how much it hurts to touch a lightbulb that's been on for eight hours. Also, he can show them how much it hurts to get a broken lightbulb to the face. You'll also need this skill to solve a puzzle later on. An average skill. -The Good-: You can easily activate and deactivate the skill at command. -The Bad-: It's a mediocre skill. Not much to offer. -The Ugly-: Trying to run into an enemy that's using it's power. ~Overall Rating~: * * * _______________________________________________________________________ Spark + Spark = | _*Electro Field*_ ================= This is the ultimate Spark power. Kirby conjures up an electrical field of energy to surround him, protecting him from projectiles and enemies alike. Whenever something hits the field, a burst of lightning hits the object. Whenever he moves forward or backward with the field up, the field grows weak; when he isn't moving, it stays strong. Good skill. -The Good-: You're pretty much fortified with this skill, plus it's cool. -The Bad-: Slow skill. -The Ugly-: Me after how long I spent trying to think of a witty, funny (probably not) reply to this part. ~Overall Rating~: * * * _______________________________________________________________________ Spark + Cutter = | _*Shock Staff*_ ================== Ah-Oh! It's Darth Maul time! With this skill, Kirby hones the abilitys of Darth Maul with his Light-Saberesque Shock staff. The only thing he can do is a spin attack of sorts. Also, he can deactivate the skill and fly, or use it and not fly. Well rounded skill. -The Good-: Fast attack -The Bad-: Not so practical to use...unless you're bored of other skills. -The Ugly-: If Kirby put on a Darth Maul Mask. ~Overall Rating~: * * * * _______________________________________________________________________ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- g. Cutter Combos ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Cutter + Burn = | _*Flame Sword*_ ================= Now, this is a pretty cool skill. (Can't fly with it) -The Ugly-: The enemies when you get through dicing and torching them ~Overall Rating~: * * * * (Almost five...almost) _______________________________________________________________________ Cutter + Stone = | _*Sculpt*_ ================== This is another unique skill which brings back memories actually. ~Overall Rating~: * * * * * (PERFECT!!) _______________________________________________________________________ Cutter + Frost = | _*Ice Skates*_ ================== Now we're talking! Ice skates! ~Overall Rating~: * * _______________________________________________________________________ Cutter + Needle = | _*Bear Trap*_ =================== This is probably one of the best skills to fight bosses with, overall. ~Overall Rating~: * * * * _______________________________________________________________________ Cutter + Bomb = | _*Explode Shuriken*_ ================= NINJA KIRBY! BOOM! ~Overall Rating~: * * * * _______________________________________________________________________ Cutter + Spark = | _*Shock Staff*_ ================== Ah-Oh! ~Overall Rating~: * * * * _______________________________________________________________________ Cutter + Cutter = | _*Big Cutter*_ =================== Throwing off part of his body, Kirby is able to use the Cutter skill. However, the downfall to doing so is a slowdown of Kirby's performance. He can't move fast, fly, or anyhing like he used to. The Big Cutter acts just like the little one, except, of course, it hits more enemies due to its emmense size. Not much to this skill, either. -The Good-: Good for bosses/mini-bosses that stand still. -The Bad-: Slows Kirby's performance down. -The Ugly-: Kirby when he uses the skill. ~Overall Rating~: * * _______________________________________________________________________ -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 4. Crystal Shard Locations (Not complete; In progress) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Here we have the next major section of this FAQ. This will tell where those sometimes hard to get/hard to find crystal shards are, and how to get'em of course. Let's get started! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- a. Pop Star ---------------------------------------------------------------------- =================== |*** STAGE 1 ***| =================== Shard 1: -------- This shard is located on the straight path, near midway through the stage. It's hovering above a grassy spot in plain view. Probably the easiest to get in the game (of course it is. The first one's are always easy). Shard 2: -------- After defeating the mini-boss, you'll come to a small pond with a metallic-looking mound in the middle. Get the bomb skill right before you get to it and bomb the mound to reveal the second shard. Shard 3: -------- This one's easy also. After getting the second shard, you should still have the bomb ability. Now, combine that ability with the next bomb guy you come across (after the pond area), and you will have to take on Waddle-do, Waddle-dee's evil side. Just stay away from him by jumping over him and flying, and shoot your homing missles. He'll be busted up in no time! After defeating him, you are rewarded the crystal he found during the cinema. ______________________________________________________________________ =================== |*** STAGE 2 ***| =================== Shard 1: -------- This shard's a bit tricky. On the little cable car part with your buddy Waddle-dee, you should see a trail of mini-stars (the ones you get to get a 1-up) going down in a straight path. Jump off of the able car when you spot that, and fly down the star path and grab the shard, then quickly fly back up to the cable car. Shard 2: -------- After the cable car ride, and a long fall, you'll have to fight this stage's mini-boss. Very easy. If you don't have a skill, just suck up the falling enemies, jump up, and spit them at the M.bosses head. Shard 3: -------- This battles a bit tough. The next shard is located right after the last one. You will have to fight a painter-kid, who paints enemies, and they come after you. Just recognize the patterns, and suck up the things they drop or shoot, and you'll be fine (if you still have a skill, that will be helpful too). ______________________________________________________________________ =================== |*** STAGE 3 ***| =================== Shard 1: -------- The first shard is located on the second time you are outside of the castle, when you drop down the pit. You should see a green slab of groun beneath you when you reach the bottom, and some water, with a crystal shard in it. You need the _"Double Cutter"_ skill, which is also known as _"Big Cutter"_ (Cutter + Cutter). To get this skill, you should find two Cutter enemies right outside of the place the crystal is in (outside of the castle the second time; the place you were just at), and use it on the green slab (the enemy's name is Sir Kibble, I believe). Shard 2: -------- When you enter the room with the spiraling stairway (right after the room with the painter-kid in it who give you a 1-up), jump up and go left, and you'll find a shard floating in the air. Shard 3: -------- You have to fight King Dedede for this shard. An easy battle yet again. Suck in the stars he lets out by hitting the ground (for his first form), and suck in the black orbs he shoots out (for his second form) to kill him, or just use a skill. Good luck! ______________________________________________________________________ ==================== |*** !!BOSS!! ***| ==================== Shard 1: -------- Hehe... To destroy this boss, use the _"Explode Shuriken"_ skill (Cutter + Bomb/Bomb + Cutter). Stand in one place and start chucking them, and dodge the breath and apple attack used by Wispy. Same strategy for the roots (second form). Try and dodge the rain of apples, and the breath attacks. Then, just wail on the roots when they pop-up. Try to get to an even length between two roots, and throw the shurikens both ways really quickly. Boom! You should have it then. On to the next world! ______________________________________________________________________ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- b. Rock Star ---------------------------------------------------------------------- =================== |*** STAGE 1 ***| =================== Shard 1: -------- Once you enter the first pyramind-like place, and after the 'first' "eye" block that stomps from above, you need to jump before going through the second one, and go over him instead. The first shard piece will be waiting for you up there. Shard 2: -------- The second shard piece is in the room right after the last piece was in. You will have to fight a mini-boss in order to get it. The mini-boss is a giant cactus who just sits at the top of a sandhill. Have a skill before you come in here for an easy kill. The _*Drill*_ skill works really well (not to mention it really works great on the next part). Stand in front of him and fire away. Shard 2 in now yours! *NOTE* If you want to get Shard 3 this time around, you must get the _Stone Skill_ only (no combinations) before you fight the mini-boss, and fight him with that skill. Shard 3: -------- After getting out of the temple with the rising sand, head down the monument and overe the hill with the oasis at the top. At the foot on the other side you'll see a lone Spark enemy. BE CAREFUL! YOU ONLY HAVE ONE SHOT! Make sure you connect with the combination of Stone and Spark skills, because there are no more Stone enemies in this area, and you cannot go back. Once you combine them, head back over the oasis hill, and to the foot of the temple. You should see a brown and yellow stone. Use the _*Electro Boulder*_ attack on the stone landmark, and the third and final Crystal shard is yours. ______________________________________________________________________ =================== |*** STAGE 2 ***| =================== Shard 1: -------- Once you reach the part of the stage were there is a marble, monolithic structure before you that you must climb and navigate, you'll find the first shard piece. Make your way to the other side, and slip into a hole there. Once you get near the crystal, it should be easy. Above where the shard is at, is a weakspot in the marble. If you step on it, you're in, and you have one more crystal to add to your collection. Shard 2: -------- In the next area, you'll find the next shard. Head to the center platform area, and drop down to grab the piece, and float back up. Shard 3: -------- When King Dedede comes to help you out (a dude wearing a red "King's Cloak"), you must bust your way through a maze of collapsable walls to get to the shard here's the directions to get to it from the beginning: -Go straight until you reach a spiraling pole; go up. -Jump off at the first left; climb next spiraling pole. -Jump off at the next left; go up ladder. -Go up next ladder to your left; jump off at top to your right. -Jump across the next pit you see, and you're there!! That is all. Follows these directions exactly, now. ______________________________________________________________________ =================== |*** STAGE 3 ***| =================== Shard 1: -------- The first shard is located in the mouth of a gigantic skeleton. The way in to get the shard is actually not through the mouth, but one of the vertebrae on the skeleton's spine. It will apear to be a brownish color, telling you that you need the "Stone + Stone" skill, or, _*Big Golem*_ skill. Just use the skill on the spine and you'll be fine. Once in, head left and there you have it. Shard 2: -------- You must go through yet another mini-boss fight to recieve the next shard. If you still have the _*Big Golem*_ skill, now's the time this one will come useful. Just get near the big Skull fish in the middle, and roll into him with your attack. When you do that, morph back into Big Golem Kirby and repeat until he is dead mere seconds later. After dropping through another hole, you'll find the second shard piece behind you. Shard 3: -------- Whilst under the magical sea (water), near the end, when the fragments of spinal cord is freely falling down at you, you should spot the next shard piece where the spine pieces are falling from, on the left-hand side. Just time your attempt to get it right, or those sharp, pertruding objects will puncture a hole in our puffy pal Kirby. ______________________________________________________________________ =================== |*** STAGE 4 ***| =================== Shard 1: -------- This shard is located after the elevator ride, in the room with the moving platforms. To get this shard is self-explanatory. Just get to the top by waiting for the platforms to open up a path, and then wait while the re-open, and drop down to get it. Shard 2: -------- The next room you will come across from the last shard area will be a dark room with the painter girl in it. What you need is the _*Lighbulb*_ skill to see the pictures in the background. Memorize that pattern from left to right, and enter the next room. Now, stomp on the buttons on the ground by pushing down on the D-pad in the order of the pictures in the last room, and the shard will appear. Shard 3: -------- Shard 3 is located within the next mini-boss. Beat him, and you have it. ______________________________________________________________________ ==================== |*** !!BOSS!! ***| ==================== With this boss, you must have a bit of patience. The battle starts out were you cannot damage him, and you must dodge his attacks as the platform you are on moves higher and higher. Once at the top, you will be able to hurt them. Make sure to find the pattern, and don't get to edgy, as they make many different moves to try and deke you out. Moreover, you should have either the _*Bear Trap*_ skill (Cutter + Needle), or even better might be the _*BIG Golem*_ (Stone + Stone). Beat'em? ALRIGHT! Moving on to world 3! ______________________________________________________________________ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- c. Revision History =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ============================= Version 0.5 -- July 11, 2000: ============================= This is the version that is about half done. The "Kirby's Mad Skillz" section is complete in this version, but the "Crystal Shard Locations" section is still in progress. Also, Section's five and six aren't complete. Verion 1.0 will have the full completion, which is coming soon. ============================= Version 0.6 -- July 21, 2000: ============================= OK. I've been lazy this time. I didn't get much done this time around. But, this is the first version people at VGH will see (possibly), and this will be the second version people at GameFAQs (and Al's site) see. Anyway, I started the shard location part, and I've got the first two worlds complete. More to come later. :o) Oh yeah. I also fixed some things, and I'm hoping CJayC, the grand, venerable webmaster sir, won't have any problems with getting this FAQ up (and other people at that [Jared Black, another wise and venerable webmaster]). I've had a hell of a time almost to get that top menu-thing aligned and stuff. Oh well. We shall see... /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// *********************************************************************** \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ This FAQ is copyright 2000 by Ethan Madsen, the FAQs owner and writer.
