5.  Crossover Games Would Rule.

The long-dreamt about “crossover” game could finally become a reality.  Think about Smash Brothers 2 for GameCube- Mario, Link, Donkey Kong…. and Sonic!  Maybe it wouldn’t improve the product any, but seeing the two mascots (Mario and Sonic) who for so long fought for supremacy during the 16-Bit wars would be an incredible feeling.  Nintendo’s big happy family would suddenly become a really big happy family.

4.  Kiss Sega’s Debt Goodbye.

It’s no secret that Sega isn’t making money right now.   And hasn’t for quite some time.  Maybe Nintendo doesn’t have the smartest businessmen at the top, but there is no denying that Nintendo has always made money, despite idiotic mistakes.  Under Nintendo’s wing, Sega could finally be put in an environment where they have the opportunity to make some money, and wipe away that ugly debt. 

3.  If Nintendo Doesn’t Buy Sega, Sony or Microsoft Could.

I have nothing against Sony or Microsoft, but I’m not sure that they would realize what they could do with Sega if they purchase them.  Sony could force Sega to make sequel after meaningless sequel, effectively killing off all of Sega’s best series’ in the process.  And if either Microsoft or Sony bought Sega, they would be one step closer to getting an NES-like stranglehold on the market.  Monopolies are never a good thing.  However, if Nintendo buys Sega, you can be sure that they will be given lots of time and money with which to make games.  And you can be sure that even with Sega, Nintendo is not going to control the market.

2.  GameCube Would Be an Assured Success.

In my opinion, and in the opinion of many other people, Nintendo, Sega and Rare are the three best game developers in the world.  With that kind of gunpowder in your cannon, you can’t go wrong.  Nintendo loyalists and Sega loyalists alone would be enough to keep the GameCube afloat.  The general public would fill in the spaces.  Say what you will about people being more interested in PS2 and X-Box because of their other functions and more mature image; people don’t buy game systems unless they want to play games.  And if they want to play games, they probably know a little about games.  And if they know a little about games, they probably know that Nintendo and Sega make better games than anyone in the world.  If Nintendo signs Sega, their systems will succeed.  Plain and simple.

1. All the Best Games Would Be on Nintendo Systems

But let’s forget Nintendo’s potential financial success for a moment.  Nintendo buying Sega is great news for us gamers.  Current estimates concerning GameCube’s price put it at $200.  A mere $200 for a system that has all three of the best developers in the world exclusive to it.  Go ahead and buy a PS2 or X-Box if you want.  But if you only have enough money for one game system, you would have an easy choice to make.  Even if you have all the money in the world, you wouldn’t really need more than Gamecube….

if Nintendo buys Sega.  Nintendo buying Sega could very well be the most important event in the existence of both of these companies.  Let’s just hope that Nintendo makes the decision that will benefit all involved parties and all gamers around the world.
