Will
Third-Parties Support
the GCN? Readers Respond...
Here's a sample of the responses we received. Please note
that the reason no negative comments are printed here is simply
because we did not receive a single negative e-mail on the
editorial. There were some negative comments left on the
message board though, so if you want to see those just click the
link at the end of this page.

I'm
the guy that went by [Mario Star³] at the forums and would like to
comment on your Third Party support on GameCube editorial. First of
all I must give you much respect. It is well written and worded.
The
NDAs are the logical reason not much hype is circulating around with
the fan base. However, with the recent announcements of third
parties such as THQ, Konami, and Capcom holding back their GCN
software from E³ does make one wonder. Either these NDAs issued by
Nintendo are being held with such regard in these company's high
offices they would blatantly lie (which if true would be a real
showing of Nintendo's pull), or these companies are really not that
serious about Nintendo and aren't that far in full out development
of GCN software (which would be a major blow). Maybe major 3rd
parties just don't want to be the first out to test the water?
E³
is going to be the telling point for 3rd party support no doubt. One
thing to remember is, Nintendo needs less 3rd party support of any
of the big three early on to be a quality console. However first
impressions do count, and without the 3rd parties' support right off
the bat the GCN will not be considered a contender by the mainstream
at all.
A
month ago if you would have asked me what 3rd party game would
definitely be on show at E³ I would have said Resident Evil 0.
Capcom had no mention of the game at their recent Tokyo meeting
where they discussed their PS2 upcoming, and recently reported not
to show any GCN products at the Expo. But how can RES0 not make an
appearance if it has been in development since late summer at least?
Sounds like those NDAs are being practiced to me.
I
especially like the stock car analogy. Those are all the positives.
I guess the only negative would have to be the comment "It's no
secret that everyone (except Square, and they want to) is supporting
the Game Boy Advance." The situation with Square is secret, no
one knows but a few people. Maybe we'll even see Final Fantasy at
E³.
On
a side note, I believe the recent remarks of Old Man Yamauchi are
one part rubbish and one part miss-translation. I think (PGC even
ran a story on this) that what he said was something along the lines
of "We may even have to cut back the sales of GameCube"
meaning funding like marketing instead of the complete production of
GCN like it is being interpreted.
All
in all great stuff, I will make a habit to start checking VGF for
more editorials of yours.

Hi.
Just wanted to thank you for a good read. I have posted a link
to it, along with my commentary, at Sports Reviewers.
To
be honest, I stumbled upon your site by accident. I was
pleasantly surprised with your editorial. It is difficult to
find intelligent,
entertaining ramblings these days. Keep up the good work.
I honestly think a lot of people are going to be surprised at how
well the NGC will do this fall. Then again I picked Steve
Walsh as the Cowboys QB of the future. :)

I
think you're opinion kicked ass! And I'm sad to hear that
SquareSoft didn't make the GameCube cut. After a year or two
and Microsoft and Nintedo blow Sony out of the water, and Final
Fantasy X on the X-Box for $70-$75 falls through, Square is going to
kicking them selves and banging thier heads against the wall, while
ripping thier hair out and screaming"God save us all!!"
I'm sure after a sevier beating and 5 or 6 years later they'll
finally turn themselves over to NIntendo's new machine coming out in
2006-2007.

I
totally agree with you
