Numerical Design Ltd. (NDL) and Nintendo of America Inc. announce that the NetImmerse game engine is now available for developers who are creating games for the highly anticipated NINTENDO GAMECUBE video game console.
"NDL's NetImmerse technology allows developers to rapidly create, port and optimize software for NINTENDO GAMECUBE," says Ramin Ravanpey, Nintendo's director of software development support. "Our new system was designed with developers in mind, and we are pleased to add NetImmerse to the growing suite of powerful tools available to our developers."
"The higher-level interface offered by NetImmerse will enable developers to quickly create new titles. We have optimized the engine to take full advantage of the power of the NINTENDO GAMECUBE system," says John Austin, NDL's president. "Nintendo's selection of NetImmerse illustrates that NDL's game engine is a recognized standard for multi-platform game development."
NetImmerse is a comprehensive set of software tools that can save approximately six months of development time and a year or more of engineering costs. It can be used for a wide variety of game genres and platforms. NetImmerse includes the C++ run-time API, plug-ins that allow developers to easily to import content from the leading modeling packages, and optimization tools that enable the developer to quickly combine high visual quality with the most efficient use of computing resources.
As
you may've read, earlier
today we reported that it's been rumored that development on the
Gamecube has proven more difficult than originally anticipated.
If that is the case, having the NetImmerse engine (which is
responsible for games including Freedom Force, Munch's
Oddysee, Star Trek Bridge Commander, Net Race Live, Dark Age of Camelot, Simon the Sorcerer 3D and Call of Cthulhu)
available for Gamecube development certainly helps to alleviate that
problem. |
