| Gamecube
in September?
March
7, 2001
In
a report filed by Reuters
today, Nintendo of Japan's Vice President Atsushi Asada gave some new
release dates for the Gamecube in both Japan, Europe and North
America. Asada is quoted as stating that the Gamecube is "on
track for a July launch at home [Japan] and a September release
in the United States, followed by Europe next spring."
Assuming
he isn't misinformed, this changes two things. First, no release
date for Europe had been confirmed (to my knowledge) until now.
Conventional wisdom suggested that the Gamecube would arrive in Europe
early next year, but now apparently that is definitely the case.
Secondly, a September release date is actually a month ahead of the
previous release date of October 2001 in North America. Nintendo
as a company has always been known for delaying its products, but if
this proves true then both the GBA (moved from July to June 11th) and
the NGC have actually been pushed ahead a month. As soon as we hear more
about it we'll pass it along.
