*Nintendo recently confirmed that
Earthbound 64 is officially canned. That doesn't mean that
some of the design work won't appear on the Gamecube though...
Previously planned to be among the launch titles for the 64DD, Earthbound
64 (Mother 3 in Japan) has been shifted to the cartridge format, which casts
an even graver shadow on the add-on's future. However, EB 64 will definitely
be a welcome title in the N64's lineup, which has been lacking RPG's ever
since its launch.

Each of the game's worlds will have a different theme to it (sci-fi, medieval,
etc.) and will occur over a ten year period. It's likely that the game will
take at least 40 hours to complete. Fortunately, it looks as though one of
the RPG genre's biggest flaws (according to some) will be fixed, as the amount
of battles will be lowered to give players more of an opportunity to advance
without having to worry about getting into one battle per step.
Not much is known about the storyline at the current time, though more
is available about that than the game's release date, TBA (To Be Announced).
We do know that it takes place shortly after its predecessor. For now, check
out the screen shots to the right and below. We'll reveal more information
as it becomes available.
