After
what seems like an eternity of waiting, Blizzard Entertainment has
announced the next chapter in the StarCraft universe, but it
isn’t what you would expect. Developed by Nihilistic Software, the
people who brought us Vampire: The Masquerade- Redemption, StarCraft:
Ghost is a console only "tactical-action" game along
the lines of Metal Gear Solid 2 or Splinter Cell, in
which you play a female "Ghost" operative (think:
futuristic ninja) who must engage in dozens of story-driven missions
all taking place within the StarCraft universe. This game
will differentiate itself from other "tactical-action"
titles by combining a number of real-time strategy and role-playing
elements into the game, including jumping into and out of vehicles
on the fly a la Halo, using numerous skills and spell-like
abilities like Cloak, and commanding troop actions on the fly with
the "call down" option. Anyone familiar with the StarCraft
universe will recognize the units, weapons, abilities and
environments in Ghost immediately, as Blizzard will keep the
game true to the franchise.

This
game is shaping up to be the hottest console game of next year, so
keep your eyes peeled for more information on this highly
anticipated game. Now, all we need is for Blizzard to make a third
person, console, hack-and-slash-fest based on the Diablo universe
and we can all die happy…
