Blood is basically the stuff that fights off viruses and gives you life.
Well, the red substance that pours out of the combatants must be colored
water because there is no life in this game.
First off, we'll say that this gore is old. The red stuff may have been the
factor that drove Mortal Kombat to fame, but nowadays when we treasure 3D
fighters that realistically approach fighting over bloody 2D combats, you
really start to look at the game differently. The blood is also not realistic
since a small blow to the face will bring a huge splatter. Hit your little
brother see if blood flies all over the room.
The fatalities were cool in the first Mortal Kombat (who didn't love using
Sub Zero to rip off your best friend's head, spine and all?). Well, Eddy
and Johnny musta run out of ideas since a lot in this game are pretty pathetic (Ermac's fatality where all he does is lift his hand and the game bounces
and blows up is pretty laughable). The friendships are pretty much the same
all together, and the animalities are, well, dumb. Most are just renditions
of one color, and Mileena's rat attack is too cute for a game like this,
while the brutalities are just standard stuff.
Combos are good for thumb workouts, and the fighting is just plain not fun.
The sequence of a fallen enemy is just falling over from MK 3, and the fatalities
still leave limbs stranded in air and body parts that don't fall over like
they should.
Characters, Americanized to the max, look almost as pathetic as War Gods'
fighters. Also, expect 4-5 versions of each character. Though the grand total
of characters is 32, it feels like 8.
While the graphics look sharper than the 16 bit versions and the 32 bit games,
they do not use any of the Nintendo 64's power.
I like the Trilogy Idea, incorporating 3 games in a series and putting them
in one game, but what a terrible game to waste it on. We could've done without
this one. Nintendo 64 just suffered a kick to the face.
Overall: 4.0
