Switch Online is arcane and terrible. They aren't actually hosting game servers, they're just charging for a P2P connection, which is especially infuriating for games that have already been functioning as P2P since the system came out.

They're adding nothing - they're just throwing already available features behind a paywall. The way their "cloud backup" works is messed up as well. If there is any gap or stoppage in your subscription, your cloud storage is deleted.

Being a sucker, I subscribed essentially just to continue playing Splatoon 2, and hoping that maybe there'd be more features readily available. So far, the only extra they have is the app with some NES games on it. I mean, I guess there's more to come, but so far it's not worth it if you're not playing games online.

At least it's cheap.

Good thing Splatoon 2 doesn't support cloud saves, so there won't be anything for a gap in your subscription to delete!

Their excuse is that people could cheat by reloading cloud saves after trading away items or losing, but no one else in the industry has that problem, and why are you even storing that stuff locally?
