Sony announces PlayStation Classic

#1

Post by Calamity Panfan » Wed Sep 19, 2018 2:12 am

After the success of Nintendo's mini-consoles, it seems like Sony's getting in on that sweet $$$.

It's coming out just on December 3, the 24th anniversary of the original PlayStation's launch in Japan. So far they've announced Final Fantasy VII, Tekken 3, Jumping Flash, Ridge Racer Type 4 and Wild Arms. $99.99 USD, not including AC adaptor for some ****ing reason.

I'm interested in seeing what the rest of the lineup ends up being. The fact that Crash and Spyro weren't announced right away probably says something. To not discourage families/kids from buying it I have doubts they'd put Metal Gear, Resident Evil or Silent Hill on here (unless they include a parental lock of some sort which I could see). Ape Escape would seem like an obvious choice but these are original PS controllers and not DualShocks, so that's out as well.

... Interesting. Not sure if I'd get it though. Maybe?

They might be able to sell me this, but none of those games are going to do it.

If it doesn't include Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue, then I don't want it.

$100? Could just buy the games you want on PSN for less than that if you really wanted them.
Now I know there's a reason you shouldn't blame others when you do something wrong, and that reason is: you might get caught and have to apologize to a bunch of dumb peasants.

I'm a sucker for early 3D so I'll keep my eyes on this.

I can't wait for this thing to come out and people will realize that most PSX games have aged like milk in a desert.

^Oh, hush. The four games they've announced have all aged a damn sight better than 'Super Mario 64' and 'Goldeneye'.

Just think of the possible Square/Capcom games. Seven RPGs, maybe more. Imagine.

^Imagine the system coming with two miniature GunCons, and 'Point Blank 3' and 'Time Crisis' among the pre-installed titles.

Most games on PS1 and N64 have aged poorly.

So what.

My first gaming platforms were the Commodore 64 and the Odyssey2. I'm not blown away by gorgeous aesthetics----------I need good gameplay. Some games have that, and some don't, and it don't matter what system they were on. 'Soul Blade' still feels as good to me as it ever did. It looks perfectly acceptible. 'Blast Corps' is my favourite game in the world. 'Banjo-Kazooie' is great. 'Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee' is great. The early Legacy of Kain games are great. 'Um Jammer Lammy' is great. 'Power Stone' is too rad for words. Do you require visual perfection in your video games?

I can't say I remember that era as fondly as the rest.

Yes sir. Used to have Fred Flintstone over for gaming nights. He'd bring over his own console made of rock---------had little animated rats inside, turning cranks and water-screws. Occasionally one of them would mug to the camera and say 'It's a living!' Cue laugh track. Then I'd steal Fred's Fruity Pebbles. I'm that evil little sonofabitch Barney Rubble, I admit it. Ah. The truth comes out at last.

Feels good to finally come clean.

I need good gameplay as much as the next guy but I'm definitely still blown away by aesthetics still lol. I'll still give them a chance if they look like an ugly duckling but it's gotta have good gameplay. The Commodore 64 keyboard, was that a mechanical keyboard? @Booyakasha

Bad gameplay bad aesthetics takes a special talent like Two Worlds, did anyone ever dip their foot in that pool of puke?

I'll buy the PlayStation Classic. As soon as I can find one that's hacked.

Mechanical keyboard? Not really sure what you mean. It's functional. The keyboard is required to operate the system-----------gotta do typed prompts to get games started. LOAD"*",8,1 is the universal one--------I'll remember that after I've forgotten my own name, believe you me.

Mislaid some of the cables for my Commodore decades back. I wonder what happened to them. It'd be fun to play 'Jumpman Junior' or 'Feud' again.

A mechanical keyboard has the metal switches underneath the keys. Normal keyboards, it's plastic and rubber underneath.
