No joke, it really does feel like a lot of the Classic mode unlocks are set up to put you at a massive disadvantage.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Got this game today. Haven't really played one of these since Melee. Really feels like I've got some stuff to catch up on. I had to look up how to trigger a final smash already, for instance.

^^Characters' strengths. Example: Played Classic as Ganondorf (one of the slowest characters, has no projectiles). Got put up against Chrom (nimble, sword reach).

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Finally got errybody! Other first impressions....

Chrom: This is Marth with Aether & worse reach. I'm also pissed at him for taking 4 attempts to unlock.
Dark Samus: Much like Daisy, it's just Samus with better style.
Ken: I can feel the differences between him & Ryu, but there aren't many.
Incineroar: Fun, but very awkward motion.

Meanwhile in the World of Light, I've uncovered the whole first map. beaten all but 1 dungeon therein, & awakened every fighter but the one in said dungeon.
Fun fact: If you equip a Franklin Badge to fight Funky Kong, life is beautiful.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Chrom is hella fast, though. But I have to say, if I’m gonna play a Marth character, it’s gonna be either Lucina or Roy.

Okay, scored Dedede (& Waddle Dee & Chef Kawasaki). Cleaned out absolutely everything east of the chasm (gonna need to go back to fix the rainbow bridge later once I get Ho-oh, though). Now I'm on "nab any spirits I skipped earlier" duty before I finally go after Galeem. Pauline & the Boss are the worst.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Getting a bit better tonight, I think. Got my 9.9 intensity clear of Classic with Link. Kinda wondering if he's still gonna be my main this time around, though. Not big on his up or down B at the moment.

Might I interest you in a slightly different Link?

Possibly. Young Link does seem to play a lot more like I'm used to. I like that he has the hookshot grab, particularly. Big hit to his reach, though.

Young Link basically plays exactly like he does in Melee, but with more competent projectile spam. I’m into it.

I got say, though, I’ve been wrecking shop with Zelda. Greninja is also quite good in this engine.

Losing those unlocks on mismatches is enough for me to just put the controller down and watch tv. Lost against my second shot at unlocking Roy because I'm buttcheeks with Dr. Mario but finished off at a fairly high intensity. I don't know if that has anything to do with the computer's difficulty.

I've been maining Link in World of Light just because of the balance between his projectiles & the spirits upgrades. Occasionally I switch to Olimar (if I can afford to sacrifice weight & range for damage output) or Lucario (if I know I'll be taking on a lot of pain).

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Chrom is actually a carbon copy of Roy with Aether, who is just Marth with shorter reach. Both Chrom and Roy do have that classic Melee neutral B though.

I haven’t done any research but I swear Chrom’s ground speed and overall frame data are better than Roy’s. Just by feel. Idk.

He's like Lucina, in that his sword deals damage evenly. Considering how impractical Roy's sweet spot can be in practice, it's a big boon.

yeah having evenly-balanced swords is really good in this game, its why chrom and lucina are considered better than roy and marth. really, chrom's only downside is that he's more vulnerable to edgeguarding but even then his recovery is better than it looks.

Chrom also lacks Roy's fieriness.

Pauline, the Boss, & the Volts. Pretty sure those are the only 3 spirits I have left in Light World.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"
