Comics/Graphic Novel Recommendation Thread

#1

Post by Valigarmander » Sat Nov 17, 2018 4:12 am

I'm getting close to having read all of the graphic novels I own, so I need some new stuff to read. Graphic novels, comic books, manga, manhwa, newspaper/webcomic collections, fiction, nonfiction, anything of the sort is welcome in this thread. I'll get around to making a list of my own top picks, too.

So what are your absolute favorites?

Do visual novels count? If not I don't have many suggestions, I don't read a lot. I suggest Marvel Zombies though, I think people tend to write it off because zombies are seen as overdone and think it's just a lazy "insert zombies into franchise" kinda thing, but it isn't. The quality is wildly inconsistent though, but it's still worth a look if you haven't checked it out.

I don't have a lot of graphic novels to recommend overall, but I do own a few of the classics. If you haven't read any Sin City, Watchmen, then check those out for sure. I had Wolverine: Bloody Choices as a kid and loved it, though I haven't seen it in a long time so can't say if it's worth hunting down or not.

For a true classic, at least in terms of art, check out The Arctic Marauder aka Le Demon des Glaces by Jacques Tardi:

You're okay with dark content, Val, yes? You should check out 'Big Man Plans'. It's really, really messed up, in a good way. The story is extremely bleak, and the art is incredible. Eric Powell has a tremendous gift, yeah.
