Star Wars: Fallen Order

It's difficult not to be a least a little worried because of how much of a mess EA has made of the license so far, but I've got to say it looks pretty promising so far.

Respawn seems to be one of the only EA studios that isn't f***ing up constantly, so I'm cautiously optimistic.

I was going to say that BioWare had been pretty consistent before Anthem, but in looking at a list of EA's games I was reminded that I forgot about Andromeda again. It obviously helps that it's at the end of the series and not narratively relevant to anything else right now, but it's still amazing how completely forgettable that game is.

It also made me realize that BioWare and Respawn are really the only EA studios that aren't stuck making annualized shooters, sports, or Sims 4 expansions at this point. I think the almost equally forgettable Mirror's Edge: Catalyst was the last game outside those categories made by anyone else.

I'm still apprehensive about this.

this looks..........really cool? honestly. But EA has the burden of proof right now to show me they can make this work.

Somethings gotta give with the annual games. We need something to shake up the industry. Top 10 on Twitch is lookin HELLA crusty. I have next to no interest in Star Wars games anymore.

Edit: How is Star Wars: The Old Republic getting new content but God of War is like, "nah fam this doesn't need a DLC." Why are people playing a game that is EIGHT years old?

^TOR is an MMO and GoW is a linear single player game. That's not really a fair comparison - people are still playing and making content for MMOs more than twice as old.

May not be a fair comparison but doesn't change the fact that Bioware is shot. The only thing I can think of in that category is WoW. Feels like it's been ages since I could play a game for more than a month and not get absurdly bored or feel like I'm wasting my time playing video games.

^EVE is 16 years old and probably the most notable, but off the top of my head there's also RuneScape (18), and both Ultima Online and Tibia (22), all of which still have active communities. MMO's are a hobby unto themselves for a lot of people. TOR is also from BioWare Austin, so its existence is largely separate from the Edmonton studio most people care about.

Also, the last primarily single player AAA Star Wars game was The Force Unleashed II in 2010. There've been loads of mobile, LEGO, or multiplayer games in that period, obviously, and nobody can stop you being sick of them regardless, but anyone who wants this kind of game has been waiting longer than pretty much any other comparably significant franchise.
